Partnerships & Collaborations
Through the 2008 Community Assessment, Green Mountain United Way identified the following four impact areas: Economic Advancement, Health, Education and Community Needs. Green Mountain United Way serves the community through partnerships with organizations and agencies within these four impact areas.

Bradford Workforce Development Committee:
This committee operates under the umbrella of the Cohase Chamber of Commerce and supports regional workforce and economic strategies. -
CASH Coalitions:
Green Mountain United Way participates in both the Central Vermont CASH Coalition and the NEK CASH Coalition, which are collaborations of those agencies providing economic services. -
Central Vermont Economic Collaborative & Housing Partnership:
Central Vermont Green Mountain United Way played a pivotal role in developing the Central Vermont Economic Collaborative. The collaborative engages stakeholders around five issues: housing, transportation, employment, communication infrastructure, and the “cost of doing business.” To increase the impact of the collaborative, the Central Vermont Housing Partnership was established. The Housing Partnership is concerned with affordable housing development (housing that costs no greater than 30% of household income). For more information please visit, www.weneedhousing.com. -
Chambers of Commerce:
Green Mountain United Way is an active member of the Central Vermont Chamber of Commerce, the Cohase Chamber of Commerce, and the Northeast Kingdom Chamber of Commerce.

Financial Stability:
Green Mountain United Way has launched a project in its five-county region in collaboration with local banks and several high schools to provide financial literacy training to high schoolers. The project will be expanded to include adult trainings. The goals of Financial Stability are to increase income, build savings and gain and sustain assets. -
Leave A Legacy New Hampshire/Vermont:
Provides public awareness of Planned Giving. -
Northeast Kingdom Collaborative:
Organizations and businesses in the Northeast Kingdom attend monthly meetings to share information about various economic topics in the NEK, including housing, transportation, and tourism. Panels of knowledgeable professionals present information at the meetings and offer suggestions for improvement. -
Northeast Kingdom Job Coalition: (also known as NEK Staffing Services)
The NEK Job Coalition meets monthly in Caledonia/S. Essex and supports job placement, job support and training in the Northeast Kingdom and is also part of the Statewide Job Developer Coalition, which applies the same goals statewide. -
Upper Valley Planned Giving Council:
Provides professional education about Planned Giving. -
Vermont Jump$tart Coalition:
The Vermont Jump$tart Coalition is a non-profit organization consisting of individuals and organizations representing business, government and education who have joined together to improve the personal financial literacy of Vermont's youth.

Central Vermont Coalition for Health:
The Central Vermont Coalition for Health was created after a successful health forum identified the need for increased collaboration. The core group is focused on improving communication and education between organizations. The Central Vermont Coalition for Health is an advisory group for the CHAMPPS grant in Washington County, promoting healthy eating and physical activity for families with young children. -
Community Health Coalition:
The Community Health Coalition is advising the CHAMPPS Coordinator for the Orleans/Northern Essex region, promoting healthy eating and physical activity for children from birth to sixth grade. -
The Dartmouth Institute
The Dartmouth Institute (TDI) has selected the communities of Manchester, N.H., Keene, N.H., and St. Johnsbury, VT to participate in a research project to improve cardiovascular health in the three communities. The Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, the Vermont Department of Health and Green Mountain United Way are members of the St. Johnsbury team and are working with Weidmann Electrical Technologies in St. Johnsbury to improve the cardiovascular health of their workforce. -
Fit and Healthy Coalition:
The Fit and Healthy Coalition meets monthly at the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury and is part of Vermont's Blueprint for Health. The group discusses current initiatives, including various healthy food options incentives to improve nutrition; education and information; standards for physical activity and behavioral changes with regard to tobacco and alcohol. -
Vermont Department of Health Community Assessment Team:
The Vermont Department of Health Community Assessment Team in the Orleans/Northern Essex region is assessing the level of physical activity in adults, especially those with or susceptible to chronic diseases. -
Lake Region Community Action Network (LRCAN):
This group from Orleans/Northern Essex counties meets quarterly to focus on the reduction of tobacco use and to support each other in various community health initiatives. -
Caledonia/Southern Essex Tobacco Advisory Coalition:
The Caledonia/Southern Essex Tobacco Advisory Coalition meets monthly at the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury. The coalition's goal is to reduce the use of tobacco and smokeless tobacco in the region and offers classes, aides to stop smoking, support groups and guest speakers. The coalition has also established No Smoking areas in public parks and other locations.

Building Bright Futures:
Green Mountain United Way participates on the Building Bright Futures Steering Committees and Councils in Central Vermont, Caledonia/Southern Essex and Orleans/Northern Essex. The Building Bright Futures Councils collaborate to ensure all Vermont children are healthy and successful. The regional groups are part of a statewide organization. BBF operates within the framework of the following four areas: 1) children are ready for school in all five domains; 2) new families at risk; 3) women smoking during pregnancy; and 4) infant mortality rates. -
Early Childhood Action Team of Orange/Windsor (ECAT):
ECAT is formerly the state's Building Bright Futures Council for Orange and Windsor counties and continues to promote and coordinate early education initiatives. -
Maternal Child Health Coalition:
The Maternal Child Health Coalition in Washington County collaborates with several different partners to address the needs of infants and their parents. They worked with Washington County Mental Health Services to create a supportive home for women and their children.

Central Vermont Food, Fuel, and Transportation Coalition:
The Coalition was formed to respond to the growing concerns about the 2008/09 winter needs. Five action teams were formed: sheltering, food, weatherization, transportation, and education/awareness. Each action team writes a monthly article for the world and has been very active in the community. Several large scale meetings have been held to engage the public. -
Community Coordinating Council:
The CCC meets in St. Johnsbury to share information and increase awareness on timely and important information about activities in Caledonia and southern Essex counties. -
Community Partnership of Orange/Windsor:
CPOW members meet monthly to discuss and share pertinent information in the Orange/Windsor county communities. Members represent non-profit organizations and state agencies. -
District Leadership Team:
Green Mountain United Way has joined the Agency of Human Services Field Director and several other agency department heads to address the social service challenges in the Northeast Kingdom. -
FamilyWize:
Green Mountain United Way promotes FamilyWize, a national initiative that provides discount prescription drug cards. The cards are made available through the United Way. -
Orleans/Northern Essex Community Partnership (ONECP):
ONECP consists of individuals from different non-profit organizations, state agencies and other interested parties who come together to network on various strengths and weaknesses of the area. Issues such as food and fuel, transportation, state budget, financial stability and housing are discussed. -
Washington County Continuum of Care:
The Washington County Continuum of Care is part of the statewide Coalition to End Homelessness. The mission is to bring together people working to reduce and prevent homelessness. -
Washington County Hunger Council:
This council has a wide interest in hunger related issues. The Council was formed through a grant from the Northfield Savings Bank to the Vermont Campaign to End Childhood Hunger and has a sister council in Chittenden County. -
Vermont 2-1-1:
Vermont 2-1-1 is a number to dial for information about social services and referrals throughout Vermont. Green Mountain United Way is involved as a partner organization through the United Ways of Vermont.
